Sonny’s life is pretty much like that of any other ordinary Year 7 boy. At school he’s got a best friend, knows how to avoid the bullies and is good enough at the high-jump to enjoy it.

At home, he’s got a busy and loving family life. But, that’s not quite enough for Sonny. If only he had some super-powers that would make him really stupendous!

When Sonny’s super power dreams of being able to fly and teleport seem to come true he longs to tell the family but before he can do so his mum goes away on business and his dad has a serious accident and is in a coma! Now Sonny and his sister and brother are looked after by Auntie Cleo who they haven’t seen for years. Why has she come? And can she be trusted?

Sonny has to use all his normal powers and his supernatural ones too to find out just what Auntie Cleo is up to. And to stop her as quickly as he can.

Ellie Clements has a great gift for making the unlikely seem possible and even almost credible in her energetic and warm-hearted story telling.

The Stupendous Sonny is a great book which has taught me not to be jealous of others and to be selfless. When Sonny discovers he has powers, he decides to use them for good. I know most people would use them for selfish reasons- this book teaches you otherwise. A great read for 10-12 year olds.

This book is a very interesting book, it includes great characteristics, important messages and much much more.
I think this book shows different perspectives of ‘unique’ people. For example, Sonny- the main character, discovers earlier on in the book that he has super powers. Himself, his best friend Elliot and his aunt Cleo all had divergent ideas on how to use them. He wanted to use them to help people, like when someone was ill or in trouble and so did Elliot at times. On the other hand, Cleo wanted to use it for herself and her ‘loving’ boyfriend. This book tells people that you shouldn’t be jealous of what other people have and not always to think about yourself.
I would recommend this book to children aged 10-12 and to people who enjoy mysteries and adventure.... Read Full Review
