Kate Willis-Crowley - Illustrator

Kate Willis-Crowley has a Master's degree in Fine Art from the Royal College of Art, and is the author-illustrator of several picture books. She lives in Ramsgate with her husband and son.

“My son, Alfie, totally inspired my vision for Dawn's little troll toddler. Strip away the horns and the tail and it's basically Alfie stomping around having a toddler tantrum. This story really lends itself to cheeky little background details; slimy creatures, grim lotions and potions, that sort of thing. As a kid, I adored Joseph Wright's illustrations for Frank Muir's 'What a Mess'; they were full of hilarious little details. That idea of rewarding the attentive reader with a few extra funnies has always stuck with me, and Dawn's troll story really allowed me to play about with these kind of ideas.”
