This is outing number four for twins Cally and Jimmy, and the stories in this new collection are as lively, entertaining and true as ever. Cally is our narrator and far and away the more sensible of the two; Jimmy, who has ADHD, tends to act first, think later, which often gets the pair of them into hot water.

Their adventures here include an eventful solo journey home from school; a visit to the cinema for a classmate’s birthday (Jimmy has too much popcorn and his friend has the school hamster hidden in his rucksack); a day at dad’s office, where Jimmy fits in surprisingly well; and the excitement of the school trip, when Cally finds old friendships coming under pressure.

Each individual story is both action-packed and firmly rooted in real life, the impact of Yiayia (the twins’ Greek grandmother) always important, and no matter what is going on or however much Jimmy is annoying Cally, we know that their bond is indeed twinseparable. This is top class contemporary fiction with a timeless appeal.
