Problem is, he needs to invent something truly spectacular for this most marvellous, spooky occasion. Add to that the arrival of a ghost train, mysterious vanishings, and a rising sense of peril and you have a situation that sees Bridget and her friend Tom get into detective mode to save Belle-on-Sea and its residents, including Mr Vanderpuff.  

Characterful, compelling and packed with warmth, this fun feast of adventure is also sprinkled with explanatory footnotes that add further whimsy, while David Habben’s illustrations are a bedazzlement of energy.
