If you’ve got a budding astronaut, scientist or star gazer in your life, Big Questions about the Universe is a book you should probably keep up your sleeve. From general questions about the make-up of planets and life in the International Space Station, to more technical aspects of neutron stars and telescopes, this well-crafted fact book breaks down some tricky concepts into digestible chunks for young readers (and some not-so-young ones too!).

Alex Frith and Alice James have done a stellar job on the learning side – but kudos to the creative team for bringing explanations to life with smart use of illustration, photography, and diagrams. With so much information for curious little minds to take on board, the visual elements definitely help build understanding, as well as injecting some playful character.

An adorable little robot sheds light on most of the big questions posed: How many stars are there? How much does it cost to go to space? What would Martians eat? But there are plenty of questions the cheery little bot doesn’t have the answers to. And these are some of the most fascinating in the book! Not knowing how big the universe really is, or whether there are other life forms out there are surely what make the study of space so thrilling.

Wherever your little ones are on their space journey, this is fascinating non-fiction for them to enjoy independently, or to use as a springboard for their own big discussions with friends and family.
