February 2022 Debut of the Month

Charley and George are twelve years old and facing a challenge: someone it seems is trying to fit them up for a series of high-profile international art thefts. The only way to clear their names is by catching the real thief. If you think it’s unlikely that two kids would be in the frame for something like this, there’s a reason they’re spending their weekends in Europe’s top cities, and a reason for someone to be madly jealous – Charley is a viral singing sensation selling out concert venues, and George, also a budding comedian, is not just her best mate but her very able social media manager. The combination of the rock star life and crime detection works perfectly here, and Charley and George are up there with Daisy Wells and Hazel Wong for sleuthing skills. Adam Hills, himself a comedian, also gets the relationship between our two junior detectives just right and for all the glamour of their lives, they feel like proper kids. Fast-moving, lively, full of jokes and humour and with a satisfying puzzle to be solved, this makes for perfect escapist reading. One to recommend to fans of Robin Stevens and Sharna Jackson.

I loved reading this book. This was a particularly good crime novel and funny at the same time. I was hooked from start to finish.

I found this book good because it left a lot of clues to make you think it was one person when the actual culprit is hidden in plain sight. At the climax it distracts you away from the actual culprit by making you think the detectives think it is someone it is not. It was written very well and was also quite funny. It has lots of plot twists and I could not guess who the thief was until one of the last clues were placed. It was a particularly good crime novel and funny at the same time. I was hooked from start to finish. I started reading and I couldn’t stop until I finished the entire book. I thought it was very clever to incorporate two entirely different things (rockstars and detectives) into one thing (rockstar detectives).... Read Full Review

Children age 7+ who like detective stories or rock star stories would like this book. While on tour Charley and George find themselves in trouble with the police when they are accused of stealing pieces from museums in every city they visit. There are lots of twists and surprises!

The main characters in this book are Charley and George. Charley is an upcoming rockstar and she is only twelve. George is her best friend and he goes with her on tour to support her. I liked the characters in this book because they are friendly and help each other.

Rock Star Detectives is a compelling story that has lots of exciting twists and turns and lots of surprises that add to the adventure. This story also shows how anyone, even children and disabled people, can achieve great things.

I love the way Charley and George carry on touring even though they are prime suspects and, instead of proving themselves innocent they try to hunt out the guilty. The main characters have so much courage yet have very human personalities. My favourite aspect of the characters is that every suspect that is accused but is actually innocent has some sort of explanation that proves, no matter how good you think the outcome of doing something bad is, it most likely won’t be worth it. Overall, the mystery fits together nicely like a jigsaw, with George and Charley putting together the pieces.... Read Full Review
