Scouting is an International Movement, which began in 1907 founded by Lord Baden-Powell; there are over 45 million members in over 200 countries worldwide with over half a million members within the UK.

Scouting actively engages and supports young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society. Everyday adventures and skills for life for 4 to 25 year olds.

Adventure is at the core of Scouting. Through adventure, Scouting challenges individuals so that they learn and experience new things that will enrich their lives and teach them skills for life. When a Beaver Scout wakes up the morning after a sleepover, or a Cub Scout has confronted their fear of heights, or a young Scout leads a hike, that is adventure.

Having being involved for six years as a Trustee of my local Scout Group, I see first hand the difference Scouting makes, the fun that our young people have, and the adventures that Scouting gives them access to.

Being involved is exciting and through the adventure of Scouting, young people and adult volunteers regularly experience new challenges that enrich their lives. Scouting offers a diverse range of activities and opportunities that challenge young people to be the best they can be physically, emotionally, spiritually and morally. It is this that makes Scouting unique.

Scouts act with care, respect, integrity, cooperation, exploring their own and others’ beliefs, they believe it’s a priority to reflect the diversity of the communities they are in.

Here, we have collected a selection of books that would serve as perfect gifts for the young people in your life who are part of the Scouting movement. Whether they're part of one of our new Squirrel Dreys across the country, a Cub Scout, Scout or Explorer, these are all great reads.

This September Chief Scout Bear Grylls launched a new book called Do Your Best: How to be a Scout. It’s the first official handbook for all Scouts across the world in over a 100 years.

Do Your Best: How to be a Scout Book by Bear Grylls

There are plenty more options below for the fiction fan or non-fiction book lover in your life from the main man himself. And plenty of books about the wonderful outdoors. In particular we love the new book Knots in a Box by Chris Duriez which is part of the The Handbook of Forgotten Skills series. Master the art of 30 essential knots with this entertaining, easy-to-follow, and eminently practical set of 30 cards which will equip readers with knotting skills to last a lifetime.
