Jojo Clinch is an illustrator living in the South Downs, a stones throw from Brighton, in the UK. She works from her garden studio, where she also indulges in her favourite pastime; making silver jewellery.
Jojo has been drawing and creating for as long as she can remember and it’s all she has ever wanted to do. Pictures and penguins (and a lot of pictures of penguins) were her childhood obsessions, and that pretty much still stands, although penguins have been slightly usurped by pot plants.
After graduating with a degree in Illustration, she worked with both gift and book publishers as an in-house designer, finally going freelance in 2007. In the last couple of years, she decided to follow her dream to illustrate again, enrolling on lots of online courses to build her portfolio and immersing herself in her sketchbooks.
Her background in publishing gives her a good understanding of the print process and helps her approach her illustration work from a design point of view. She uses typography in many of her illustrations and loves producing hand drawn lettering.
Her work is highly textured and colourful, combining watery ink with marker pens and coloured pencils. She also likes to mix up traditional and digital, using her iPad to finish off most of her illustrations, although the starting point is nearly always organic and hand drawn.
