Little children love the Poppy and Sam stories. The books are vibrant and colourful with lots of fun details to spot, and always the Little Yellow Duck that hides on every page.

Poppy and Sam live in Apple Tree Farm with a host of friendly farm animals including Rusty the dog, Wooly the sheep, Clucky the hen and Dolly the carthorse. The series began in 1984, part of a new collection of books published by Usborne for very young children. The stories feature two preschoolers (Poppy is about four and Sam is two years younger) as they play on the farm, meet the animals and begin to explore the world.

With Poppy and Sam, young readers are introduced to new words, colours, concepts - and the joy of reading.

The original books were illustrated by Stephen Cartwright, who passed away in 2004, but the books retain his iconic illustrations through a subsequent illustrators, Simon Taylor Kielty and Lizzie Walkley.

In addition to the early board books the series now has a range of activity and novelty books, with farmyard noises, fun lift-the-flaps and stickers. And young children are introduced to new skills in Step-by-Step Drawing, Telling the Time and Poppy and Sam's Baking Book.

You can find a selection of the Farmyard Tales Poppy and Sam books below, each with downloadable activity pages, colouring fun and simple drawing ideas.
